The Top 10 Controversial Songs

The UK-based Performing Right Society (PRS) has conducted a poll into what most people think are the most controversial songs. It's a pretty standard list to be honest...... it's amusing how some of these songs have been massive hits and they are so common place these days.

Indeed, every teenage kid listens to Killing In the Name Of and heck, when I saw U2 play two nights ago, the mighty Jay-Z sampled Smack My Bitch Up.

Top 10 Most Controversial Songs:

1. Smack My Bitch Up - The Prodigy
2. God Save The Queen - The Sex Pistols
3. Relax - Frankie Goes To Hollywood
4. Kim - Eminem
5. Killing In The Name - Rage Against The Machine
6. Ebeneezer Goode - The Shamen
7. Suicide Solution - Ozzy Osbourne
8. Get Your Gunn - Marilyn Manson
9. Angel of Death - Slayer
10. Dear God - XTC

Clearly this was a British list.... where's GNR's One in a Million? Anything by Prince and did the Brits forget their own punk legend's Anti-Nowhere League's song So What??

Auckland Set List U2 Night Two

Auckland Set List U2 Night Two 2010

Friday 26 November

Last night's U2 set list meant for a pretty awesome U2 show, the lads backed up again with a full on night two set list. Highlights included the addition of Hold Me Thrill Me Kiss Me Kill Me to the set, always a threatening song on the CD, live, it is a dangerous, sexual beast!

I think it was during GOYB that Bono though in some limes from Crowded House's Don't Dream Its Over.

U2 also again played The Johsua Tree and dedicated it to the miners of the Pike Mine.

There was a classic bit during Mysterious Ways where The Edge's effects did not work properly at the sound. As I was seated behind him, I could see him hit a pedal but that didn't work, he then actually flipped his guitar up to have a look and then then finally the guitar started proper - all the the while the band played on.

The I'll Go Crazy Remix grew on on me a little bit but it's still definitely a low point of the show.

Wifey and I were stoked Bono sang a wee bit of Unchained Melody as we danced to the U2 version at our Wedding.

Auckland Night Two Set List - Night One Set List Here

Return of the Stingray Guitar, Beautiful Day, New Year's Day, Get On Your Boots, Magnificent, Mysterious Ways, Elevation, Until the End of the World. I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For - Movin' On Up, One Tree Hill, Angel Of Harlem - Don't Stop Til You Get Enough, In A Little While, Miss Sarajevo, City of Blinding Lights, Vertigo, Relax - I'll Go Crazy If I Don't Go Crazy Tonight (remix) - Two Tribes, Sunday Bloody Sunday, Scarlet, Walk On - You'll Never Walk Alone

Encore(s): One, Unchained Melody - Where the Streets Have No Name

Set Encore 2: Hold Me Thrill Me Kiss Me Kill Me (lyrics), With or Without You, Moment of Surrender

U2 Auckland Set List 360 Degree Tour

This was the Claw during Jay_Z's performance

U2 Auckland Set List 360 Degree Tour Night One

U2 last played a set in New Zealand in 2006 - lucky fans got treated by U2 over two nights to special NZ only versions of One Tree Hill, one of the classic tracks from The Joshua Tree.

This time round U2 diehards were not disappointed as U2 played the song again as part of a set list full of classic U2 songs. A poignant moment in the show, it was dedicated to the miners that died in the Pike Mine tragedy. A list of the 29 miners who died was displayed on the big, wondrous screen.

U2's lengthy rehearsal on Tuesday night included Mercy, Boy Falls from the Sky, and Miss Sarajevo.

What a night, U2 sent us into outer space indeed. Personal highlights were the piano based version of Miss Sarejevo with Edge on keys duty, I Still Haven't Found, End of the World and Kiwi favourite, One Tree Hill.

After opening the night, Jay-Z came out and rapped some bollocks on Sunday Bloody Sunday which was awesome.

I'll Go Crazy If I Don't Go Crazy Tonight (remix) is simply crap and I looked around during the song and the fans were dying out there. It's the only low point in the set list. Bono threw in some of Crowded House's Fall at Your Feet during an epic Walk On (I think it was that one!).

U2 in full song

And we got to hear Scarlet - U2 Tours says this is the first time U2 have played this song in a set since September 3, 1981 during a BBC radio show. They did it with Jay-Z did some rapping on it too - I wonder how many Kiwi's knew they were getting a special treat there!

U2 Auckland Set List: Night One

Return of the Stingray Guitar, Beautiful Day, I Will Follow, Get On Your Boots, Magnificent, Mysterious Ways, Elevation, Until the End of the World, I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For, One Tree Hill, Pride, In A Little While, Miss Sarajevo, City of Blinding Lights, Vertigo, I'll Go Crazy If I Don't Go Crazy Tonight (remix) - Relax - Two Tribes, Sunday Bloody Sunday, Scarlet, Walk On - You'll Never Walk Alone

Set Encore 1: One, Amazing Grace - Where the Streets Have No Name, Ultraviolet (Light My Way)
Encore 2: With or Without You, Moment of Surrender

City of Blinding Lights

The Edge reminds us that Aung San Suu Kyi's release is not enough

Who will only fly, only fly for freedom?

Having been following the recent news that political prisoner Aung San Suu Kyi  had been released, I had thought to myself that U2 would be pleased as they dedicated Walk On to her.  Aung is this era's quivalent of Nelson Mandela, a prisoner for standing up for democracy and promoting it in her own country.

Given U2's activism and involvement with Amnesty International, it's no surprise U2 have sought to bring publicity to Aung San Suu Kyi's plight. So it was no surprise I received the following email from the official U2 website:
Dear U2 Fan,
I'm sure, like us, you're delighted with the news of the release of Aung San Suu Kyi in Burma at the weekend. We should all be relieved, if cautious, that she has been able to take a step towards freedom.
However, we must remember that her release is not part of any political process but is designed to get positive publicity for the dictatorship after the blatant rigging of elections on 7th November. We must not forget the thousands of other political prisoners still suffering in Burma’s jails and must do whatever we can to encourage the international community to engage the junta in dialogue.
We will continue our support of this remarkable woman and her campaign, and as always we count on your continued input and continued vigilance.
I have nothing else to add.

When: November 6, 2010

Where: Waterloo Park, Austin, Texas.

Mr Parody himself has enough hits of his own to put together a pretty entertaining set list. An enthusiastic review of Al's show said, "after 30 years, more than 100 parody songs and 12 million albums sold, he’s outlasted a sizable number of the artists he’s lampooned. Coolio only wishes he had a career that long or relevant " which is a pretty fair call!

Black Label Society Set List 2010 Berzerkus Tour

Black Label Society Set List Tulsa, Oklahoma

Zakk Wylde's BLS played a sweet set at the Brady Theater. Along for the hell blazing ride were, Clutch, Children of Bodom and 2 Cents on their 2010 Berzerkus Tour.

The person who provided the BLS set List shared this story "In between songs some dude ran from the side of the stage, grabbed a pick off of Zakk's microphone stand, jumped off stage, tried to get over the rail, and got snatched up and slammed into a wall by three of the biggest security guards I've ever seen (one of which was on Last One Standing on Discovery Channel). Zakk looked kind of confused and then said "At least he didn't steal my purse." which got a chuckle out of the crowd."
