ACDC Wellington, New Zealand Review and Set List

ACDC Black Ice Tour Set List Wellington, New Zealand

28 January 2010

So like for once I don't have to copy a set list from another site, I wrote down ACDC's set list cos I was there baby! Woo hoo! Hell Bells indeed. Opening up with the forgettable Rock and Roll Train, Westpac Trust Stadium when nuts when the classic riff to Back in Black was played third song in.

I realised during the show that ACDC are a 'buy the numbers' rock band. This is forgivable, however, as they were apparently the guys that wrote the actual numbers down in the first place. Songs like Dirty Deeds and Shoot to Thrill are rock standards, it's great to hear the guys that made them that standard. That said, some people complain that ACDC have made the same album 10 times - those people weren't in Wellington tonight!

The crowd was a sea of black t-shits sporting various incarnations of ACDC. They were well behaved and smoked a lot of weed. Early into the set a mongrel mob member collapse right in front of me. His head landed on my toes. He was skull fucked and couldn't get up. Me and another dude pulled him up and his girl nursed him away. Classic.

Angus Young is a manic. Being 60 doesn't slow him down. He was all over the place. An epic 10 odd minute solo consisting of baiting the crowd with blues riffs in return for crowd adulation was a highlight. Two years ago I saw Zakk Wylde play a long solo during a Ozzy Osborne show which I thought could not be topped. Angus did it in a pair of shorts and with with a bald spot and a When Angus played his 'War Machine' for the crowd, rather than for himself as I suspect Wylde may have, I said to myself, this is why I paid $160 bucks for the privilege.

The rhythm section were tight and know their place on stage. Play the monster chords, hit the skins (with a fag in your mouth all night looking bored!) and the bass kept chugging along all night - that said the bass playing was fairly understated.

Lead singer sings the songs with gusto and says the lines the crowd wants to here. The star of the show is Angus Young and that's pretty much why he takes the lead on so many of the album covers.

Stage wise, there's a big train that lets of smoke. During Whole lot of Rosie, Rosie and her giant tits come out to play and straddle the train. We even saw some real tits on the screens and I think that got the biggest cheer of the night.

Overall it was great to see ACDC, not a completely thrilling night but a night filled with some great songs, fist pumping and a whole lotta rosiness going on....

ACDC Wellington Set list:

Rock n Roll Train
Hell Ain't a Bad Place To Be
Back In Black
Big Jack - nice blues feel, a totally diffferent side of ACDC for the casual fan like me.
Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap
Shot Down in Flames
Thunderstruck
Black Ice
The Jack - with an Angus strip show to reveal his ACDC underwear.
Hells Bells
Shoot to Thrill
War Machine - going to featured in Iron Man 2 Soundtrack
High Voltage
You Shook Me All Night Long - crowd favourite of the night
TNT
Whole Lotta Rosie
Let There Be Rock - with epic Angus Young solo performance post song.

ACDC set list encore:

Highway To Hell
For Those About To Rock

Brian said after the song, 'We salute you, New Zealand'.

The opening bands were The Checks, and kiwi legends, Shihad - who I only saw one song of, something from the General Electric Album I think.....

Hope for Haiti Concert Set List

Hope for Haiti Concert Set List
January 2010
The stars came out on a solemn night to offer Haiti a little bit of hope and hopefully a lot of money via the telethon - Hope for Haiti.
A list Hollywood Actor George Clooney helped organize the event, and his hope is that the songs carry the event beyond the evening and into the following weeks, months and years. "We're gonna have some amazing performances, and I think that's gonna make it last a little longer than just a telethon," he said earlier this week. Sometimes these things come across cheesy but for this show there was no doubt in the sincerity of those involved. You only had to listen to the emotion in Stevie Wonder or Beyonce's songs to feel their commitment.
Here's the set list of the songs sang by the various players from around the world.
Set List:
Alicia Keys: "Prelude to a Kiss"
Coldplay: "A Message"
Bruce Springsteen: "We Shall Overcome"
Stevie Wonder: "A Time to Love"/ "Bridge Over Troubled Water" - Simon and Garfunkel
Shakira: "I'll Stand by You" - The Prentenders
John Legend: "Motherless Child"
Mary J. Blige: "Hard Times"
Taylor Swift: "Breathless" - Better than Ezra cover
Christina Aguilera: "Lift Me Up"
Sting: "Driven To Tears"
Beyoncé: "Halo"
Sheryl Crow, Keith Urban and Kid Rock: "Lean on Me" -Bill Withers
Madonna: "Like a Prayer"
Justin Timberlake: "Hallelujah" - Leonard Cohen cover
Jennifer Hudson: "Let It Be" - Beatles cover
Emeline Michel: "Many Rivers To Cross"
Jay-Z with U2's Bono and The Edge (featuring Rihanna): "Stranded (Haiti Mon Amour)"
Dave Matthews and Neil Young: "Alone; Forsaken"
Wyclef Jean: "Rivers of Babylon"
Want to get this music and give some money to the Haitians?
iTunes customers can exclusively pre-order the "Hope for Haiti Now" full-performance album ($7.99) and the full two-hour video telecast ($1.99). Pre-orders will be delivered in the days following the telethon.
Individual audio performances will also be available for purchase and download for 99 cents each in the days following the telethon. Apple, the record labels and the artists will donate their share of the proceeds to Haiti relief funds managed by "Hope for Haiti Now" charities, including the Red Cross and Wyclef's Yele Haiti foundation. Performances will also be available for purchase in the days following the event through Amazon's MP3 service and Rhapsody, through distribution provided by INgrooves.

An American Recording

Johnny Cash's American VI: Ain't No Grave, featuring the final recordings the Man in Black ever made before his death in September 2003, will be released via American Recordings and Lost Highway on February 26th, the day that would have marked Cash's 78th birthday. Like the previous LPs in the American series, Rick Rubin produced the sixth installment.

Covers on the set include Sheryl Crow's "Redemption Day," Kris Kristofferson's "For the Good Times," Ed McCurdy's "Last Night I Had the Strangest Dream" and Bob Nolan's "Cool Water."American VI will also feature the never-before-heard Cash original "I Corinthians: 15:55," which he wrote during the last three years of his life. Cash began recording American VI in 2002 and worked up until his September 12th, 2003 death. Cash stuck with the project even after the death his wife June Carter in May 2003. "Johnny said that recording was his main reason for being alive. I think it was the only thing that kept him going," Rubin said in a statement.

Guitarists Mike Campbell, Matt Sweeney, Jonny Polonsky and Smokey Hormel and keyboardist Benmont Tench join Cash on American VI, and the Avett Brothers' Seth and Scott contribute to the title song "Ain't No Grave." As this album represents the last of Cash's recordings, American VI will be the final installment of an American series that dates back to 1994. Both American III: Solitary Man and the American Recordings box set Unearthed were among Rolling Stone's Top 100 Albums of the Decade.

Check out the lyrics to the album at american recordings lyrics johnny cash!
