Good Riddance (Time of Your Life) Lyrics by Green Day

Good Riddance (Time of Your Life) was a surprise crossover hit for Green Day from their Insomniac album. It is a break up song and despite the lyrics, it is widely used as inspiration for happier events.

On the album version, at the beginning, the song's lyrics writer and singer Billie Joe Armstrong makes a mistake (the 3rd and 4th strings of the open G/D chord are played instead of the 2nd and 3rd), tries again, repeats the mistake, and in anger swears.

This "mistake" was deliberately included in the song to provide comic relief, as the lyrics clearly show it's one of their more serious songs.

Good Riddance (Time of your Life) Lyrics:

Another turning point;
a fork stuck in the road.

Time grabs you by the wrist;
directs you where to go.

So make the best of this test
and don't ask why.

It's not a question
but a lesson learned in time.

It's something unpredictable
but in the end it's right.
I hope you had the time of your life.

So take the photographs
and still frames in your mind.

Hang it on a shelf
In good health and good time.

Tattoos of memories
and dead skin on trial.

For what it's worth,
it was worth all the while.

It's something unpredictable
but in the end it's right.
I hope you had the time of your life.

(music break)

It's something unpredictable
but in the end it's right.
I hope you had the time of your life.

It's something unpredictable
but in the end it's right.
I hope you had the time of your life.

Speaking of Green Day, do want to read the lyrics from the songs of Revolution Radio? Get your eyes over Ordinary World (no, it's not a Duran Duran cover!) and also our favourite from the album, the almost criminally under rated, Still Breathing. Here's a live video:
