Set lists and a little bit of Rock

We are Deja Voodoo

So I wandered down town to the Wellington kick off of NZ music month - @ Town Hall - with Cherry's Blossoms, Deja Voodoo and Bleeders.

Turned up for last two songs of the Blossoms. They were pretty shite. Maybe they did not drink enough gin before the show. Either way, those chicks do not rock. The drumer was pretty good though, I'll give em that.

That set finished so Jay Bee et moi ventured outside thinking there would been an age till the next band - there wasn't and I turned up for the last song of Voodoo's set. Grrr! It was 'Beers' so at least it was amusing..... that'll teach me. And for the record, I had 6 in the fridge but I think Levi drank them.

Then the Bleeders. Nu Zillan's top punk band. I left after 5 songs, home for a beer. I think it went to my head but I'm going to have another to be sure. If there's any left...

Here's some pics.

Holed Out

"After what happened to Nirvana, you don't really want Courtney Love talking to your lead singer's girlfriend."

A road crew member intervenes as the much-maligned Love approaches the partner of Artic monkeys front man Alex Turner for a chat.

I tell you love, sister, it’s just a kiss away

So like the Rolling fucking Stoners themselves, @ The Cake Tin, Wellington, NZ. Last night. To sum up what is surely to be a joyous rant on how great they are, "Holy Fuck!"

And now for the joyous rant. No wait - first I shall bitch about Nickleshit, Nickelsucked Nickelwateof time or whatever there name is who opened. They are a bunch of whiny, uninspiring over rated, wannabe rockers. Bland and Boring chords. Every song sounds the freaking same. This is how you remind me. A big pile of Scooby dooby dooby do do. Speaking of doobies there was a bit of that in the air. But that's Rock and Roll Mister innit?

Well actually the R and R only started avec the B chord intro kicking off to the gas gas gas of Jumpin Jack Flash.  I used to listen to mum's record of this song! The crowd went off like a John Kirwan world cup final try. It was game on.

So me Dad then asked me if Ringo was gonna sing yellow Submarine….

The thing bout Keith Richards is that after Johnny Depp said he modelled Jack Sparrow from the Pirates of the Caribbean on The Riff Machine, I can not but help think of him as a pirate with his scarves and crazy hair and bandanas and wrinkles etc.

"Hello ladies .. and Wellington" he said to his kingdom of loyal rock servants. Which was kinda funny given the band's legendary exploits with groupies and David Bowie. NE Ways its about the music innit gov? (except all that was missing was the eye patch).

This show was all killer and no filler. The hits kept pumping from out the stone mill  - paint it black, brown sugar, gimme shelter, that song they wrote for Bill Gates  and sympathy for the devil were me personal highlights.

The guitar abilities of Ronnie and keith were amazing to watch. They seem to do heaps of weird chord structures (like no standard barre chords at all?) with the lil pinkies going everywhere, millions of guitar changes, great changes in song tempos. Ronnie Wood is underrated as a guitarist – some of the bestlicks were his to play. That said when Keith kicked the intro riff of Satisfaction into gear I was blown away by the power of three chords and the power of some useless information! It was rock at its epitome – singing songs to get laid really.

So this chap was a happy camper – Stones may be old and wrinkly but they kick the ass of most bands on the planet.

Songs I wish they did play but didn't:

Street Fighting Man
Wild Horses
We love you.

Breakdown

So call me an idiot (ur an idiot - Ed) but is this out going coda of sorts from GNR's 'Breakdown' some kind of reference to the movie Vanishing Point?

"There goes the challenger being chased
By the blue blue meanies on wheels
The vicious traffic squad cars are after
our lone driver
The last American hero
The-the electric sintar
The demi-god,
The super driver of the golden west!
Two nasty Nazi cars are close behind
The beautiful lone driver
The police cars are getting closer-closer...
Closer to our soul hero in his soul mobile
Yeah baby!
They about to strike, They gonna get him,
Smash! Rape!
The last beautiful free soul on this planet"

So I've been thinking - things are a little slow on this blog - it has lacked a bit of focus -  but it looks like The Mighty Asterix is gonna help pick things up. So bring forth the rock! and thats my point I think, on my part anyway, this blog will focus on music related stuff, concerts musings on GNR etc... rather than past pasta related concerns....Now if Levi ever makes a post......that's a whole other ball game. Like Petanque.

When you took everything, you took everything

Don't you sometimes just wish you knew how to play the killer riffs from Estranged by GNR?

On another matter,

Don't you sometimes just wish you were Zakk Wylde?

On another matter,

Don't you sometimes just wish Zakk did a cover of Estranged?
